Why can’t I connect to WhatsApp on my PC?

Q I can’t connect to the web version of WhatsApp ( https://web.whatsapp.com) on my HP all-in-one PC. The QR code that appears on my computer’s screen looks wrong, and WhatsApp on my smartphone won’t scan it. Any ideas?

A It appears that out-ofdate graphics drivers are causing a glitch in the Chrome and Edge web browsers. The fix is to make sure you have the latest drivers installed. We don’t know which specific HP computer you have, but if you follow the links to the company’s support website, at https://support.hp.com, you should find what you need.

Alternatively, a quick workaround is to disable your browser’s hardwareacceleration feature, which should then allow your PC to display the QR code correctly. First, click the browser’s menu (three dots, top right) and choose Settings. Then, in Chrome, click Advanced followed by System. In Edge, just click System. Finally, in either browser, click the ‘Use hardware acceleration when available’ slider to its Off position (see screenshot below left). Now just restart the browser and return to the WhatsApp website.
